Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is adding Patient Survey (HH-CAHPS) Star Ratings to Home Health Compare in 2016
Fort Worth, Texas - July 10, 2015 - The Affordable Care Act calls for transparent and easily understood public reporting of all quality of care information. CMS is adding the Patient Survey (HH-CAHPS) Star Ratings to the Home Health Compare website in order to help provide transparency. This compares the quality of care delivered by Medicare-certified home health agencies (HHAs), and assists consumers in making informed decisions about which agencies to choose for their care. CMS believes that the HH-CAHPS Star Ratings will stimulate improvements in the quality of care delivered, and provide incentives for HHAs to maintain or improve their own quality. This effort is part of an initiative to roll out Star Ratings across CMS’ various Compare websites.
CMS will conduct a dry run of the HH-CAHPS Star Ratings for the October 2015 public reporting period, and will post the dry run data around the beginning of October. HHAs will be provided a preview report showing the dry run Star Ratings assigned, based on data collected from April 2014 through March 2015. The dry run Star Ratings will not be publicly reported. Only home health agencies will be able to view these ratings.
The first public reporting of the Star Ratings is scheduled for January 2016.
Star Ratings will be updated each quarter, and are based on the same data currently being reported on Home Health Compare.
Neither the agency's compliance with HH-CAHPS, nor their annual reimbursement will be impacted by the Star Ratings.
