The DSS Health Care Engagement Index™ (HCEI™) uses health literacy, knowledge, attitudes and behaviors to measure each consumer’s involvement in their personal health care and the health care system overall.

Free Usage of Index

To give more people and organizations the benefits of the DSS Health Care Engagement Index™ (HCEI™) and to build a larger database for the HCEI user community to use for tracking and benchmarking health care engagement, we now offer free usage of the DSS Health Care Engagement Index measurement instrument to health plans, health care providers, employers, academics and health care consultants.

Interested parties need only sign a standard license agreement to:

• Display the Decision Support Systems, LP (DSS) copyright on all online, printed and any other renderings of the items that make up the HCEI.
• Not sell or give the index or associated proprietary scoring information to another individual or organization without the written consent of DSS.
• Not reverse engineer or otherwise misuse the HCEI instruments, items or associated algorithms.

Usage of the DSS Health Care Engagement Index will remain free in perpetuity to those who sign the agreement. Add the index questions to any existing survey or ask them on their own to measure engagement amongst employees, health plan members, patients, wellness program participants and other consumer groups.

Free Scoring of Members

Sign-up in the next 90 days and DSS will score an unlimited number of records for you. Any individual or organization that agrees to deposit their de-identified results into a benchmark database maintained by DSS will receive free engagement index scoring. Those who agree to share their data will also receive access to the benchmark results, comparing their population’s literacy, knowledge and engagement levels to national and regional benchmarks. Results will be available by gender, age, education level, coverage type and other variables known to be correlated with health care engagement.

Those who participate in the benchmark database are assured:

• No individual level or organization level results will be identified or shared with any third-parties
• Results will be aggregated with those for other organizations for reporting, analyses and benchmarking purposes.
• Unlimited records may be scored as long as the agreement is in effect.

DSS will take every precaution to avoid collecting any personal health information (PHI) that would be considered a potential risk for a HIPAA violation.

Paid Scoring Also Available

Any organization that does not wish to include their data in the national benchmark database may use the engagement index questions and then pay DSS a service fee for each member record scored.
